Which one looks like your floor?

Water changes the shape of the boards before you see stains. Compare your floor to these four patterns. It tells you a lot about whether it can be repaired.

Cupping

The edges of each board rise above the center. Moisture is coming from below.

Can recover once the subfloor dries

Crowning

The center rises above the edges, often after a cupped floor was sanded too early.

Usually needs boards replaced

Buckling

Boards push against each other and lift off the subfloor.

Replacement in the affected area

Gaps

Boards shrink and separate as the floor dries out too fast.

Often repairable

Also watch for dark stains along the seams, soft spots when you walk and a musty smell from the floor.

Can a water-damaged floor be repaired?

Sometimes. We look at the floor in person and tell you which option makes sense, even when it’s the smaller job.

Repair is usually enough when

  • The damage covers a few rows of boards
  • Boards are slightly cupped but solid underfoot
  • Moisture readings show the subfloor is dry and sound

We replace only the damaged boards and blend them into the rest of the floor with matching stain and finish.

Replacement is the better choice when

  • Water spread under most of the room
  • Boards are buckled, crowned or soft
  • Stains have soaked through the wood

We remove the damaged flooring, repair the subfloor where needed and install new hardwood, engineered wood, vinyl or laminate.

We work with your insurance

Water damage is often covered by homeowners insurance. We work directly with your insurance company and adjuster, so the scope of work and the price are clear for your claim.

  • We document the damage during the on-site visit
  • We provide a detailed scope and estimate for your adjuster
  • We coordinate the schedule once the claim is approved

Questions homeowners ask us

Can water-damaged hardwood floors be saved?

If the boards are only slightly cupped and dry out fully, they can sometimes be sanded and refinished. Boards that are buckled, stained or soft usually need to be replaced.

Do you replace just the damaged area or the whole floor?

When the damage is limited, we replace only the affected boards and match them to the rest of the floor. If it’s widespread, we’ll explain why a full replacement is the better option.

Do you work with insurance companies?

Yes. We work with your insurance company and adjuster on water damage claims and provide the documentation and estimate they need. Coverage depends on your policy, so check the details with your insurer.

How long does a floor replacement take?

Most rooms take a few days, depending on the size of the area and the type of flooring. You get a clear timeline with your estimate.

Do you sell flooring materials?

No. BCB Flooring is an installation and repair company. We can help you choose materials, but we don’t sell them.
